This is the event response to the play Into the Woods.
Last Friday, I have been to the play Into the Woods of Muhlenberg College. This was the first time I watched this play and it was totally different from what I’ve known about these Disney characters.
People always said that Asian girls are treated unfairly since they have to be at home and get married early. How about all the Disney princesses that the Western girls are told since their childhood that they need to find a prince to be happy?

We all know that the prince becomes a prince not because he is talented or kind, but because his father is a king. Sad but true.
The Baker’s Wife (I don’t like this call since it sounds like she just exists because of her husband) asked Cinderella so many times why she ran away even she knew that was a prince chasing her. She just said she didn’t know, it was quite not what she expected. She didn’t love him but because she was told that the ultimate goal of her life is to marry a prince, therefore, she just did it. The old story ended with a dreamy wedding and they would live happily forever after.
“I was raised to be charming, not sincere.”
Prince Charming
However, this time, the story after the wedding became more realistic and might be unacceptable to some audience who believes in a happy ending. Although the prince was running after Cinderella for three nights to get married to her, he cheated on her. His love for her didn’t last longer than the time he spent chasing her. They just met once at the ball and the moment was not enough for them to fall in love. And as expected, love has gone as fast as when it came; the dream of a prince broke into pieces. The prince said: “I was raised to be charming, not sincere.”
After all, Cinderella didn’t need a prince to fight over the witch.
After all, she didn’t need any prince to become stronger and (I believe) also happier.
After all, she didn’t need a prince to live her own life and decide her own fate; she just needs herself. So do you!
You don’t need any prince to become a princess. Because you are already a queen!
